The Story Behind The Journey

Where It Started

We’re the Ireland Masters Over 50s Women’s Hockey Team.

“Hockey is for the young,” they say…
We prefer to think it’s for the young at heart. 💚

For most of us, hockey has been part of our lives for years—through careers, families, injuries… and finding our way back to it again.

The road to Rotterdam started on a frosty morning last December, with over 40 players travelling to Dublin for trials.

Now It’s Go Time

Now the team is set.... it's go time!!

Every Sunday, players travel from as far as Cork and Limavady to train in Dublin.
Three hours. Every week.
Blood, sweat… and hopefully no tears. 💪

Early mornings. ⏰
All-weather sessions.
Life, work, and everything in between.

And still—showing up.
Still loving the game. 💚

The Test Ahead

Our first test comes at the Home Nations tournament in Southgate this June, where we’ll face Scotland, Wales, and England—a first glimpse of where we stand… and our first shot at medals. 🏅

Then it’s full focus on the World Cup.

The Stage We’re Stepping Onto

The 2026 World Cup will be one of the largest hockey events ever, with over 100 teams from across the globe. In our category alone, we’ll face teams from across Europe and as far as Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, the USA, and beyond. 🌏

A proper gathering of the young at heart, all still chasing the game they love.

What Makes This Special

But what makes this journey special isn’t just what happens on the pitch.

It’s everything—and everyone—around it.

Teammates.
Families.
Friends.
Clubs.
Supporters.

Because this isn’t just our journey.

It’s something bigger.

And we’d love you to be part of it with us. 🤩

Meet the women behind the journey

What It Takes To Get There

Getting to the World Cup takes more than just commitment on the pitch.

Behind every match, every training session, and every moment on the pitch… there’s a real cost.

✈️ Flights
🏨 Accommodation
🏑 Tournament fees
🚐 Transport
👥 Coaching team & manager
📍 Pitch hire
👕 Team kit
🍽️ Food

The overall cost of getting the full squad, coach, assistant coach, and manager to the World Cup is around €43,600.

As a team, we’re covering a large part of this ourselves—but the reality is, representing Ireland at this level comes with significant expense.

And that’s why your support makes such a difference.

Because it doesn’t just help fund a trip.

It helps turn this opportunity into reality.

We’re aiming to raise €20,000 with your support to help make it happen.

Every contribution—big or small—helps close that gap. 💚
